The Story of Mutaba B Community
Mutaba B is a rural community, located 28 km from the nearby community of Chisamba. To survive, many families rely on subsistence farming and finding odd jobs in the community. Witchcraft, prostitution, and the abuse of alcohol are evident in Mutaba B, deeply impacting the most vulnerable children and their families. Other challenges include a lack of clean water, food shortages, and unemployment.

In 2015, Hands at Work began officially partnering with the Miswa Community Based Organisation (CBO), after mobilising the local church and Care Workers to care for the most vulnerable children. For several years, two Care Points in Miswa operated under the umbrella of the Miswa CBO. The purpose of having two Care Points was to limit the distance that the children needed to walk from their homes. In 2021, the Care Workers, together with the local Hands at Work team in Chisamba (supported by the Zambia Regional Support Team), decided to split the Miswa CBO into two official CBOs with their own leadership and Care Workers teams. Miswa A became known as Mutaba, and Miswa B as Miswa.
Over the years, the need in Mutaba continued to grow, and both Care Workers and children were walking increasingly long distances to reach the Care Point. As such, in 2024, the local Hands at Work team, supported by the Zambia Regional Support Team, started a second Care Point in Mutaba, operating under the umbrella of the Mutaba CBO. In 2025, the Mutaba CBO was split into two official CBOs, each with their own leadership structure and group of Care Workers.
The Care Workers who had been walking to the original Mutaba CBO joined the team in Mutaba B, and the remaining Care Workers were mobilised from the local churches in the surrounding area. Likewise, the 50 children who had previously walked long distances to the Care Point began attending Mutaba B.
The property currently has a toilet, and there are plans to construct a Life Centre building later in the year. In March 2025, both the new and existing Care Workers participated in a Foundations Training, where they learned the heart and vision of Hands at Work. There are plans to facilitate a Maranatha Workshop in 2026.
The Care Workers meet weekly for Relationship Groups, where they share their stories and have the opportunity to pray together.
The local Hands at Work team in Chisamba currently supports six Community Based Organisations, which exist to care for the most vulnerable in their communities. The office provides training, networking, and encouragement to those Community Based Organisations like Mutaba B. It also gives administrative support, including helping with funding proposals, monitoring and evaluation, bookkeeping and reporting to donors.
