Sponsored Cycle Ride in aid of Hands at Work in Africa

Each year the Church of England Parish of Fen Drayton with Fenstanton chooses a charity which they then support throughout the year with various fundraising events. Julia Mitchell writes:

One of the fundraising events is always a cycle ride which we try to link to the charity in some way. This year,, we decided to do a route which included visiting one of the Hands at Work mission partners, and plotted a circuit to go to St Andrew’s in Biggleswade. The ride was in one of this summer’s many heatwaves so the three of us (Julia, Keith and Barrie) set off at 8am in order to avoid the higher temperatures forecast for the afternoon. We had a lovely ride with some great refreshment stops – we thoroughly recommend the farm shop and cafe just outside Gamlingay!

We had a wonderful welcome from Sue at St Andrew’s and learned about the team that was about to leave to visit their partner community of Mafambisa. What great work Hands at Work is doing!

Our return leg went well but the temperature did rise, as expected. Still, it was a very worthwhile day out. We pedalled just over 46 miles and raised £410 plus Gift Aid to help our link community of Matsinho B in Mozambique.
