Democratic Republic of Congo

Prayer Requests - May 2014

Greetings in Jesus’ name,

If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday - Isaiah 58:10 (NIV)

Please pray for:

After many years, Hands at Work in Africa has had our legal registration approved in Mozambique. All glory to God!

Pray for the many children in Mozambique who are suffering. As we hear stories of sick and dying children, please pray for guidance for Hands at Work as we expand our work in Mozambique to care for more children.

We thank God for His blessing and provision as on April 1, 2014, we were able to start providing one nutritious meal per day, free access to education, and basic health care for the most vulnerable children in Chinkhu.

Pray for our local leaders in Malawi as they explore new communities to expand into. Ask God to reveal those communities with the most need.

Praise God for the story of Thandi, a 12-year-old girl. She was left to care for her 18-month-old brother, Tamandani, after her mother died and their father abandoned them. Lainess, a widowed Care Worker, came to their aid and took Thandi and Tamandani into her own home. Today they are no longer alone, but loved and cared for.

As our local leaders expand our work in the Honde Valley, pray for Hands at Work to have wisdom and guidance in identifying future leaders in the communities of Katambarare and Chinake.

In Zimbabwe, two of the major challenges are access to education and health care. Pray for the many children who cannot afford school fees, and the children who are sick and cannot access medical treatment. These children are desperate to receive an education, health care, and feel loved and cared for. Ask God to make a way for Hands at Work to reach more children in Zimbabwe.

Pray for young volunteers to be identified in the community of Badia who are willing to serve the most vulnerable. Pray for more churches and community leaders to deeply understand the heart of Jesus, and their calling to serve.

Pray for the unstable area of Goma where our Care Workers and children are living under a constant threat of rebel activity. Pray for safety and stability in these very challenging situations. As our local leaders and Care Workers begin to provide one meal a day for the most vulnerable children in Goma, ask God to ensure these services will continue and not be interrupted.

God’s blessing,

40 Days of Prayer 2014 - Day 5

Week 1 - Serving the Most Vulnerable

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, war has devastated the country. Years of rebel attacks have left children as refugees in their own country. Recently peace has returned, and the first light of hope is breaking through in a very dark place.

Prayer Requests

Greetings to our Prayer Warriors,

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer,
Believe that you have received it and it will be yours.
   - Mark 11:24

Pray for the volunteer Care Workers in the communities of KAMBOVE and KISUNKA who strive to serve and care for the most vulnerable children. The situation is unstable and they face many challenges.  We thank God for the men and women leading the work with commitment and dedication.

In KITABATABA a young child, Gloire, was found dying of malnutrition.  Hands at Work, together with World Vision, intervened and he is healing.  We thank God for His faithfulness.

Praise God for the spiritual healing Care Workers experienced in the workshops held in PIMAI.  Pray for Farai, our local leader in Zimbabwe, as he and his team follow up with Care Workers.

There is a stronghold of rejection in the souls of the Care Workers in HONDE VALLEY.  Many have experienced trauma and now suffer from inner wounds as deep as those of the children they are caring for.  We trust for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Pray for the next workshops to be held in BUSHBUCK RIDGE.  Pray that many Care Workers will be released from their own inner pain so that they can have a deeper understanding of the despair of the vulnerable children.

If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered.

Prayer Requests

July 12th

Greetings in Jesus’ Name.

Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the LORD will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.

Proverbs 3 : 25-26

GOMA The situation in Goma is very unstable and dangerous at the moment. There is a lot of anxiety and fear as no one is certain about what is happening.  Families have fled to find safety and vulnerable children are traumatized. Grandmothers caring for many children are especially at risk as they try to protect these children.

Please pray that the situation will be stabilised and peace will return and for the protection of the most vulnerable children on Goma. Pray for Erick, Angel and local Care Workers to have wisdom as how to protect the children.

That they will find strength in God’s word.

The SALT (SERVE AND LEARN TEAM) who have been serving in several countries across Africa for the last two months have built relationships, helped with many needs in the community , and shared the love of Jesus.

They were a blessing to many and responded to His mandate to care and have compassion on the poor.

Be blessed. Oumie
