Crisis Response

IN THE WAKE OF CYCLONE IDAI

In mid- March, Cyclone Idai hit South Eastern Africa, devastating communities and affecting hundreds of thousands of people in Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

In many of our communities, the crops have been devastated and hundreds of our children’s homes have been destroyed, and more homes continue to fall due to the ongoing rain.

“I woke up to my grandchild standing outside. Our home was destroyed.”
– Gogo Rosa, Matsinho Community Mozambique.

Together we are caring for the most vulnerable. Please give generously to Hands at Work’s Crisis Response Fund.

Our Response

George Snyman is currently on the ground in Mozambique, where our communities were hardest hit. We also have key leaders on the ground in Malawi and Zimbabwe. They are assessing the damage and prioritising the needs in the wake of Cyclone Idai.

Our response has started with providing food security and striving to ensure access to temporary shelter for those who have been affected. As the situation continues to evolve on the ground we are walking closely with our Care Workers, the local church, other aid organisations, and government services to help care for the needs of our children and their families and to assist them to rebuild from the current destruction.
