to reach Africa’s most vulnerable children

The Crisis:

Conflict, poverty and the AIDS crisis have combined to trap many African communities in extreme vulnerability. While most of the world’s previously poorest nations are escaping poverty, extreme poverty across sub-Saharan Africa is at its peak and worsening. (World Poverty Clock)

35 million Africans have died of AIDS and 750,000 continue to die each year, creating an overwhelming crisis of orphaned children. Many of these children live in isolated and unstable situations, cared for by elder siblings or struggling grandparents without access to health care, education or even adequate food. (avert.org)

Going to the most vulnerable:

Hands at Work is striving to reach the most vulnerable children in communities across Africa where HIV/AIDS and poverty are devastating. Institutional models of care are overwhelmed and unable to respond to the need. Communities need to be mobilised and equipped to respond.

Caring holistically:

Acting with concern and urgency, local volunteer Care Workers sacrificially give of their time to seek out the most vulnerable. Through regular home visits they strive to ensure that the most vulnerable children are physically, emotionally, and spiritually cared for.

Stirring up local communities:

Hands at Work identifies local Christian leaders who are already demonstrating a passion to serve the poor and vulnerable. We support these leaders in coordinating a group of local volunteers to serve their community. Hands at Work begins a long-term relationship to increase the community’s capacity to provide care in an effective and holistic manner.

Local Volunteer Care Worker Julia understands the struggles that the most vulnerable children face having grown up in the community of Zwelisha, South Africa herself. She experienced the love of God through the church and so she brings that same love and care to the children in her community like Narcisse.

Play your part

Local African volunteers are giving their time and resources to reach children like Narcisse, but they need your help. A contribution of $25/month would provide a child access to life-giving health care, food security and support with their education. Together we can care for the most vulnerable children across Africa.
