Lucia* and her family were identified as amongst the most vulnerable in their community when local Care Worker Enesto visited them in their home. Lucia and her brother began attending the Care Point where they receive a hot, nutritious meal daily, and support with their education and basic health care. Recognising the poor state of the home the family were living in, the Care Workers, together with the local Hands at Work team, constructed a new house for the family, ensuring their safety and security.
Today, eight-year-old Lucia is in grade two. She loves playing with her friends at the Care Point and is learning to build trust in Care Workers like Enesto. Lucia’s mother, Anna, is grateful for the Care Workers who help her to feel she is not alone in caring for her children.

Care Worker Aceria has been a mother figure to 18-year-old Jose* ever since his mother passed away in June 2021 from a long illness. Daily, Jose comes to the Care Point where he is supported with a hot, nutritious meal and with basic health care and eduacation; he is in grade 8 at school. For a few precious hours each day, Jose is relieved of the burden that he carries in providing for himself, and is able to simply be a teenager surrounded by Care Workers who love and care for him like their own child. - Matsinho B Community, Mozambique

When 14-year-old Maria comes to the Care Point, she has the space to simply be a child, no longer carrying the burdens that she once did. She has grown emotionally and in her relationships with the other children and the Care Workers at the Care Point, particularly Gelita. As they have spent time together, they have developed a relationship of love and trust, evidenced in the way that they love to visit one another in their homes. - Matsinho B Community, Mozambique

In Matsinho B community, Mozambique, a garden has been planted and cultivated by the Care Workers. The crops harvested from the garden will be sold to the Community Based Organisation, with the profits going to the Care Workers involved. Any other harvest remaining will be divided amongst the Care Workers for their personal use – either to eat or to sell in the local markets. In a place where the harvest has been poor, their garden is thriving!

"When the opportunity arose to be a Care Worker and help care for the children in my community, I jumped at the chance. I understand the need for father figures in the community and I enjoy playing with the children and teaching them life skills.”
Antonio Raiyen is the coordinator of Matsinho B Community Based Organisation in Mozambique.

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. - Matthew 18:1-4
