Extreme Weather (Super El Niño 2027)
El Niño is an ongoing climate phenomenon projected to have unprecedented impact globally, driving extreme heat, severe droughts and major flooding. It is anticipated to reach its peak intensity at the end of 2026, into early 2027. We are expecting it to have a serious impact on the countries, communities, and families we serve in Africa. But this is not the first time we have faced extreme weather conditions. The network of relationships we’ve built in the most vulnerable communities, where the local church is at the centre, positions us well to be able to monitor, assess and respond in ways that are locally driven, timely and targeted. As we anticipate this crisis, we invite you to pray with us.
Heavenly Father, we humbly come before You with reverence and gratitude, as the Creator of all things. With full confidence in Your grace and mercy, we lift up these coming months of expected rains and drought. May you protect the lives, the homes and the crops of those who will be impacted. May Your Holy Spirit spur on Your people in the local and global Church and governments to respond in the impending times of need. We pray all this, knowing that You hear our prayers and answer them according to Your will, in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.” Psalm 24:1-2
*Special crisis funding is not needed at this time, because our ongoing programs are already meeting the need. To support our greatest need in this time, please give here.
A severe drought in central Zambia in 2024 where short-term relief was provided by inviting Primary Caregivers to the community’s feeding program as well as providing agricultural support for the next growing season.
