Over the last year, the Hands at Work team in Kabwe saw that many of the children who were identified as among the most vulnerable were not actually coming to either of the feeding points because it was too far to walk from where they lived – in an area called Chilipamushi.

Regularly, we're going to be introducing one of our Care Workers from across Africa. Today we want you to meet Beatrice from Chilipamushi in Zambia.

“My name is Beatrice and I have seven children. All of my children attend the Care Point except the eldest, who comes to help. In December 2022, I became a Care Worker. I wanted to be a Care Worker because I was experiencing a hard time in my marriage and my husband died. I was very lonely and I didn’t know how to feed the family. When people started to do Holy Home Visits with me, I began to feel encouraged. I became a Care Worker so I could have fellowship with others and help others as I was helped.

I likes looking after and playing with the children at the Care Point. Especially I like to encourage the children who are sad or look lost and lonely because she knows what they feel. I really like to talk to them and make them laugh.”

As the Care Workers in Chilipamushi Community, #Zambia have deepened their relationship with Dorcas and her family, they have been able to get to know her and find out about her own dreams and aspirations for her life. She would have liked to become a doctor but realizes this is becoming increasingly unlikely having missed so much schooling. Thankfully, the Care Workers are supporting Dorcus closely and teaching her essential life skills which help her to continue to support her family whilst developing her own potential.
