Last week, in the community of Matsinho B, #Mozambique, 50 of the most vulnerable children began receiving a hot and nutritious meal, health care and educational support. The Hands at Work local office team in Chimoio has been visiting the community, worshipping and dancing alongside the children at the Care Point and bringing support and encouragement to the #CareWorkers as they serve. #ServingTheMostVulnerable

When teams come to serve with Hands at Work in Africa, they play a pivotal part in uniting the international Church outside of Africa with the local Church in Africa. As teams come to visit some of the most vulnerable communities across Africa, they join hands with the Care Workers and the children, saying ‘we are with you, you are not alone and people around the world are praying for you’. When teams come, they don’t come for an ‘experience’ but come to build deep and trusting relationships with the #CareWorkers, the children and their families, bringing the hope and love of Christ.

We envision the local Church in Africa effectively caring for the orphaned, the widowed and the dying, and unified in this mission with the Church outside Africa. We believe that the biblical mandate to care for the orphaned, the widowed and the dying is not only for the Church in Africa but also for elsewhere, and Hands at Work will be a prophetic voice to the Churches outside Africa, challenging them to fulfil their mandate. We are currently serving in #DemocraticRepublicOfCongo, #Malawi, #Mozambique, #Nigeria, #SouthAfrica, #Swaziland, #Zambia and #Zimbabwe.

I served as a Care Worker from 2006 until 2010, when I joined the Hands at Work local office team in Hazyview. The work in the communities is tough. It is hard to see the brokenness of the children and the vulnerability that they face but it is the grace of God that has kept me going. There have been people in my family and community who have criticised what I’m doing because they think I should be out earning money. But my heart is to work with the children. Even in the difficult situations I have to trust God and continue to love people. Each child is taken by the hand of a local volunteer #CareWorker, who finds them a seat and then lovingly hands them their plate of food. The Care Workers in Chinku Community, #Malawi, are dedicated to knowing each of their children by name, understanding their needs and serving them. #ServingTheMostVulnerable

One component of a healthy and holistic #LifeCentre vision is the provision of basic facilities. These include toilets, cooking shelters and spaces for our children and Care Workers to gather within. Our dream is to see these physical spaces transformed into welcoming, colourful and attractive facilities which reflect values of life and care. Together with Hands at Work, our local volunteer #CareWorkers and the children being served, our international teams can play a part in bringing this dream to life!

After the death of his parents, 14-year-old Thando* began living with his elderly grandparents. Although his grandparents love their grandchildren and desire to provide for them, it has proven challenging. Understandably, Thando has struggled in the aftermath of his parents’ deaths. He has struggled to trust people and he lacks confidence. It was in Thando’s sadness and pain that he was invited to come to the Care Point. As his #CareWorker, Poppy, visits his home and invests into his life, Thando has slowly begun a journey of healing. Even when Thando tried to push his Care Workers away, their refusal to give up on him demonstrated the love that they have for him. #ServingTheMostVulnerable Pray for the most vulnerable children like Thando to find healing through the love of their Care Workers.

Livester, a local volunteer #CareWorker from Maonde Community, #Malawi, regularly spends time with Patrick* in his home who shares that his favourite part of her visits is that they sing and dance together. This is a beautiful picture of the vision for our work; the local church is bursting into these kids’ lives the way that Jesus did for us. Livester brings the love and hope of Christ to Patrick's home, fostering opportunities for them to praise and worship Him together. 'You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever.’ Psalm 30:11-12 #Scripture
