We’re going to be regularly introducing one of our Care Workers from across Africa. Today, we want you to meet Ojuroye from Amokoko Community in Nigeria.
“My name is Ojuroye, and I live in Amokoko Community. I have been a Care Worker for five years and I have a passion for loving and caring for the children. My life changed completely for good after becoming a Care Worker to care for the children. Visiting the children is one of the parts that help me to know them better and also know how to pray for them.”

Many children in #Nigeria are required to help provide for their families. For one of our youth from Amokoko Community, this involves going out regularly to fish from the boat in this picture.

Unable to cope with her life’s trauma, 16-year-old Nasha* became angry and aggressive to deal with her pain. When local Care Worker, Moji, met the family, Nasha was fighting with her siblings over food. Concerned by their vulnerability and trauma, she connected with the children’s mother, Musa*.
Since Nasha and her siblings started coming to the Care Point, life has been changing for the better. Although there remains uncertainty, they can rest in the assurance that they will receive a hot, nutritious meal daily at the Care Point. Through the love of the Care Workers, Nasha is learning how to cope with her anger. She knows she is loved and safe, and if anything happens, she has a place to go and additional mothers to share her burdens. – Amokoko Community, Nigeria

“Samuel* is one of the youths who has been involved in the youth discipleship programme in Amokoko community. He has really shown an interest in it, and he always asks that we let him know whenever there is a project that needs to be done. He doesn’t mind helping, even if he is the only one. He loves being responsible and is eager to learn.” - Taiwo, African Leader (Nigeria)

When 15-year-old Joseph* and his mother would go to church, they would often stay behind, looking for food or support from the congregation. It was here that they met local Care Worker, Moji, who listened to their story and responded in love. Immediately, Joseph and his siblings were invited to the Care Point where they could be holistically cared for. Thank God for Moji’s quick response in bringing the children to the Care Point. Pray that it will be a place of love and acceptance for Joseph and his siblings. – Amokoko Community, Nigeria

Youth from Amokoko Community in Nigeria helping the local construction team and the local Hands at Work team in Lagos build a kitchen shelter in Temitope Community. In addition to learning construction skills, the boys have regular Bible studies and times of intentional discipleship with Matthew and Taiwo, members of the Lagos team. This is a picture of how Hands at Work brings holistic education to the lives of the most vulnerable.

Amokoko Community, Nigeria – 10-year-old Daniel* stays with his grandmother and is often found wandering the community aimlessly, not attending school. His grandmother is not able to care well for Daniel or teach him how to care for himself. Daniel has been invited to the Care Point, where he is taken care of and has a safe place to make friends and learn about God.

The Amokoko Care Point is for the youth who have graduated from the Eagles Wings Community School in Nigeria, and are now attending secondary school, and for other youth in the community who have never attended school.
Busie Siyata-Jones, African Volunteer (South Africa) shares:
“Looking at the children, it’s easy to distinguish who attends school and who doesn’t. Our fear was that the children who don’t attend school would feel out of place but that isn’t the case. Instead, those children are arriving at the Care Point early and helping to take responsibility. We long for our children to be healed, whole, feel loved, have a sense of belonging and grow in their character and understanding of Jesus. Amokoko is an answer to prayer."
Please pray for the youth attending the Care Point to be unified, whether they attend school or not. Pray that they will come to know the unconditional love of their Heavenly Father and for the Amokoko Care Point to be a place of love and safety.

At the beginning of October 50 of the most vulnerable adolescents in the community of Amakoko, #Nigeria, began receiving a hot and nutritious meal, access to education and basic health care from the hands of loving volunteer Care Workers.
Please pray for the Amakoko Care Point to be a place of safety and love, where the most vulnerable children can come knowing that they are deeply loved and cared for, not only by their Care Workers but by their Heavenly Father!
