I get excited when a community looks to increase because it gives us opportunities to invite new children to the Care Point, who we have been unable to care for in the past. For the first time, they are visited by the #CareWorkers in their homes and are invited to the Care Point. For these families, this is God showing Himself. One of the greatest feelings that a person can ever have is being known by name and feeling accepted. For the first time, these children have a place where they are expected each day, known by name, have the freedom to play without responsibility and receive a hot meal every day. At the beginning of July, the number of children receiving a daily nutritious meal, and support with their education and health care in communities across South Africa, #Zambia and #Zimbabwe was increased. Every interaction a child has with his or her environment is an opportunity for learning. In the first five years of life, 90% of our brain capacity is developed. Therefore, it is essential to create a safe, stimulating space for early learning. Daily activities such as talking, singing and playing, within the care of intentional, nurturing adults, stimulate brain development and dramatically influence future health, learning and behaviour in positive ways. At the Care Point in Mcheneke Community, #Malawi, 19 children under the age of five are cared and taught basic preschool education by two volunteers #CareWorkers at the Care Point while their older siblings attend school. #ServingTheMostVulnerable

"As an introvert, I find that interacting with people takes a large amount of emotional and physical energy, and living in a small community means that I do this on a consistent, daily basis. However, what I’ve come to find in living in Zambia at Kachele Village, is that when you have close relationships with those around you, it’s not nearly as draining. In fact, I’ve found that I am wanting to spend more time with people than ever! It is a credit to the family atmosphere that has been created at Kachele. Growing up, Esther moved between different relatives after her parents’ deaths, but was often mistreated. Eventually she was taken in by a kind family who taught her about Christ. She wanted to become a #CareWorker because she wants to make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable, so that they don’t have to experience what she went through. Her desire is to see the most vulnerable loved and cared for. Today Esther, alongside fellow Care Workers, serves 200 of the most vulnerable children in the community of Susu in #Zambia. Last week, in the community of Matsinho B, #Mozambique, 50 of the most vulnerable children began receiving a hot and nutritious meal, health care and educational support. The Hands at Work local office team in Chimoio has been visiting the community, worshipping and dancing alongside the children at the Care Point and bringing support and encouragement to the #CareWorkers as they serve. #ServingTheMostVulnerable

When teams come to serve with Hands at Work in Africa, they play a pivotal part in uniting the international Church outside of Africa with the local Church in Africa. As teams come to visit some of the most vulnerable communities across Africa, they join hands with the Care Workers and the children, saying ‘we are with you, you are not alone and people around the world are praying for you’. When teams come, they don’t come for an ‘experience’ but come to build deep and trusting relationships with the #CareWorkers, the children and their families, bringing the hope and love of Christ.

We envision the local Church in Africa effectively caring for the orphaned, the widowed and the dying, and unified in this mission with the Church outside Africa. We believe that the biblical mandate to care for the orphaned, the widowed and the dying is not only for the Church in Africa but also for elsewhere, and Hands at Work will be a prophetic voice to the Churches outside Africa, challenging them to fulfil their mandate. We are currently serving in #DemocraticRepublicOfCongo, #Malawi, #Mozambique, #Nigeria, #SouthAfrica, #Swaziland, #Zambia and #Zimbabwe.
