join the Hands Short Term Service Team
There are two types of short-term service teams: First, passionate people are invited to form their own team: we encourage churches or just groups of passionate co-workers, friends and family, interested in forming a relationship with Hands at Work to come together and form a short-term team. Click here to hear more about what that looks like. Or the second option is to join a team of other individuals from around the world organised and facilitated by Hands at Work, serving and seeking the heart of God in poor and vulnerable villages in Africa.
Hands at Work accepts applications for Option 1 teams any time of the year. The Option 2 team of individuals facilitated by Hands at Work is offered once a year. Individuals will be brought together as a team at the Hands at Work HUB in South Africa, where you will start with a brief orientation on our response to the AIDS and orphan crisis in Africa. You will then spend days with a long-term Hands at Work volunteer serving and learning in several local villages. You will walk along side our local Care Workers to visit Care Points and the homes of the most vulnerable. You will come to learn and experience, and be an encouragement to our local teams who care for the poorest of the poor every day.
This opportunity is for people seeking to get a glimpse of how Hands at Work serves in local African villages, and to gain understanding of how they can make serving the most vulnerable a part of their life. All ages are welcome, however under-18 requires being accompanied by a guardian. Though Hands at Work is a Christian organization, there is no faith commitment required, but a willingness to respect Christian ways and lifestyle and to participate in Christian devotions and prayer times.
