40 Days of Prayer - Day 40

Thank God for the past 40 days of prayer.  Ask Him to continue to break your heart for the orphans of Africa and give you a deep understanding of the brokenness throughout the communities Hands at Work is serving. Ask Him to help you continue to be faithful in prayer for Africa's vulnerable.

But truly God has listened; he has attended to the voice of my prayer - Psalm 66:19

40 Days of Prayer - Day 39

As you approach Easter Sunday, reflect on the sacrifice that was made for our sins, and the almighty power of God.  As Jesus’ death raised believers from the dead, so will He come again.  He is building His Kingdom.  Ask God to prepare you for the coming Kingdom and to guide you in your role in its creation.

Come thou fount of every blessing

Tune my heart to sing thy grace

Streams of mercy never ceasing

Call for songs of loudest praise

Teach me some melodious sonnet

Sung by flaming tongues above

I'll praise the mount I'm fixed upon it

Mount of thy redeeming love

Here I raise my Ebenezer

Hither by thy help I come

And I hope by thy good pleasure

Safely to arrive at home

Jesus sought me when a stranger

Wondering from the fold of God

He, to rescue me from danger

Interposed His precious blood

O to grace how great a debtor

daily I'm constrained to be!

Let thy goodness like a fetter,

bind my wandering heart to thee

Prone to wander Lord I feel it,

prone to leave the God I love

Here's my heart, O take and seal it,

seal it for thy courts above

I am bound for the kingdom

Wonʼt you come with me

I am bound for the kingdom

Wonʼt you come with me

Hallelujah we sing

40 Days of Prayer - Day 38

The rainy season is the cause of massive destruction to many families in Africa each year.  Though they need water, the rain is so intense that it destroys the unstable homes of orphans and ruins gardens that provide food.  Ask God to have mercy on orphans and the poorest of the poor; that the rains will provide without leaving ruin behind.

40 Days of Prayer - Day 37

Pray for Rimos.  Read his story again and remember that there are millions of children living in poverty and in desperately vulnerable situations like him.  Thank God that He heals the broken.  Ask Him to bless the millions of children in Africa.  Commit to telling someone else Rimos’ story »

40 Days of Prayer - Day 36

Today, pray for the babies being born in vulnerable communities in Africa every second.  Thank God that He knows each of their names and desires for them to live in a world where they will never be hurt.  Pray they will grow up knowing and following Jesus.  That they will be loved and know how to love themselves and others.  Pray for their safety, their health, and ask God to send angels to guide them through their lives.

40 Days of Prayer - Day 35

Pray for the Hands at Work International Offices and volunteers in Australia, Canada, Germany, South Africa, United Kingdom, and United States of America.  Many of our volunteers long to serve in Africa but sacrifice their desires in order to see our mission and vision realized in their own country.  Ask God to give endurance and passion to each person, as they run every aspect of their operations, and advocate to their churches and communities on behalf of children thousands of kilometres away.

40 Days of Prayer - Day 33

Pray for the nation of Zimbabwe where an economical crash has caused people to burn money in the streets.  Thank God for the tireless Care Workers who are being mothers and fathers to the orphans in this extremely poor country.  Ask God to protect and provide for the children who have had no choice in being born into vulnerability and brokenness.

40 Days of Prayer - Day 32

Today, pray for young mothers who are busy dying and agonizing over what will happen to their children once they die.  Ask God to take away their worry that their children will have to live in the streets, sleep in garbage, and become prostitutes and criminals.  Pray these mothers will find rest in God, and ask Him to send Care Workers who will commit to caring for their children so they can pass away in peace.

“For dying mothers, the biggest fear when they are sick is leaving their children behind.  When you visit a young mom who is dying of AIDS, her one request is, ‘Can you look after my children when I die?’ That fear of what will happen to their kids makes it very hard for them to die peacefully.  Having Care Workers and Young Moms programs mean these dying mothers receive home visits.  When you see these visits, you see how much hope they bring to the moms.  Hope that someone is there for them and most of all that someone will be there for their children.  Pray for the sick and dying mothers of Africa to find people that will bring hope to them.  Pray that their children will be okay.  Pray that as they are dying they will have relationships with people who will be in their lives not just to say goodbye, but because they care and want to be there for them.” -Busie Sityata-Jones

Busisiwe (Busie) Sityata-Jones has been working with Hands at Work since 2006.  She has served as the Young Moms Program Coordinator, Clau Clau Service Centre Coordinator, and is now the Regional Support Team Leader for South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.  She was born in and has lived her entire life in South Africa.  She has one son and is married to Stephen Jones.

40 Days of Prayer - Day 31

Thank God for Christian leaders all over the world who have said “Yes!” to his mandate to care and have compassion for the poor and the orphans.  Pray He will rise up more servant-hearted believers who will be willing to lay down their lives for the one He promises us.

We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us—and we ought to lay down our lives for one another - 1 John 3:16
