40 Days of Prayer - Day 27

Hands at Work
March 18, 2013
Nigeria has 150 million people, most living in slums.  Today, pray for the orphans living in these slums, many of whom are unable to go to school because they are forced to work.  Thank God for those children we have found and been able to provide care for, and ask Him to reveal more children to us and provide the resources to care for them.

When Hands at Work starts working in a new community, the care that the children receive is not limited to a daily meal. It is essential that the children are being physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally cared for. ⠀
⠀
As Hands at Work grows, we are continually growing in our ability and capacity to care for the children well.

In the chapel on the Hands at Work property in #SouthAfrica, we have a dedicated space to post our prayer focuses as a daily reminder of the many prayer requests that are raised throughout the weeks and months for the most vulnerable children and Hands at Work. ⠀

Julio* is a 10-year-old boy in grade 4 at school. He lives with his mother and 3 siblings who also attend the Matsinho Community Based Organisation (CBO). For Julio, being part of the Matsinho CBO means that he can receive physical support – like a daily meal – and also the chance to play with other children. Julio has found a new confidence in going to school since being given a uniform and shoes, and his school fees paid for.⠀

He is risen!
He is risen!
"Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins!
But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God's paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.

He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. Unjustly condemmed, he was led away. No one cared that he died withoutdescendents, that his life was cut short in midstream. But he was struck down for the rebellion of my people. He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man's grave." - Isaiah 53:4-9

"Back in February, a Maranatha Workshop took place for the Primary Caregivers and the children in the community of Chibote, #Zambia. Since the workshop, the local office team in Kitwe have led weekly follow-up sessions to build on all that was taught. Joining a follow-up session, I was so encouraged to see the way the children responded to the questions asked by Ruth and Eunice (Kitwe local office team). For the youngest children, they were asked to think about and draw a picture of what Jesus had done for them. It was sweet and yet so powerful! They acknowledged in a simple and yet profound way that Jesus had made such a difference in their lives!" Catherine Clarkson, International Volunteer (#UK) shares on the follow-up that took place with the children after the Maranatha Workshop in Chibote, #Zambia.

Earlier this month, the 2018 Volunteer Intake, as part of their orientation, joined Hands at Work local office teams in #Mozambique, Oshoek, #Zambia and #Zimbabwe. Please #pray for them as they build relationships and learn how we care for the most vulnerable. Pray that they will have open hearts to what God wants to do in and through them during this time.
