Esther’s* parents passed away when she was only eight months old, leaving her and her sibling in the care of their elderly grandmother, Mercy, who does her best to take care of her grandchildren. However, long journeys on foot eventually wore out Mercy’s legs, making trips to the field painful and work more tiresome. This left now 8-year-old Esther to help her grandmother in the field and at home, carrying a load far heavier than any child should.
Although this was a big part of Esther’s childhood, it was not the end of her story. Recognising their vulnerability and the importance of caring for the family’s emotional, physical and spiritual needs, local Care Workers invited Esther and her sibling to the Care Point. Esther puts her trust in the Care Workers and has a strong relationship with them. She wants to be a nurse when she grows up, to help others like she has been helped.
