Until late last year, 14-year-old Noah* had never attended school or built any kind of relationship outside his family. When Care Workers in Kalende became aware of Noah and his brother Matthew’s* extreme vulnerability, they slowly but persistently started to build a relationship with the family and invited the boys to attend the Life Centre. For the first time in their lives, the brothers knew they would have a meal each day and a place where they belonged and felt safe. Noah is now gradually starting to engage with other children at the Life Centre.
The Care Workers recall a time in March when a group of children were clapping and singing together at the Life Centre. Noah came close to the group and began to clap along, albeit a few steps back from the circle. This was an enormous step for him; it was the first time he had engaged with other children at the Life Centre. Kalende Community, Zambia

A beautiful example of local community ownership can be seen in the way that the Care Workers in Kalende took it upon themselves to construct the walls on their Relationship Group shelter, using funds that they had earned from selling the charcoal that they had made. Praise God!

Kalende Community, Zambia. The love between four-year-old Lilen* and her mother is evident by their close bond and desire to spend time with each other. By the grace of God, Lilen has found additional parental figures in the Care Workers, who also deeply love and care for her.
100 of the most vulnerable children in Kalende receive a daily meal, access to education and access to basic health care.
For many of the children in Kalende, the food that they receive at the Care Point is the only meal that they will receive that day.
Children wait patiently in line to wash their hands.
